On Minecraft Updates

For a while I've been writing internal docs keeping track of ideas, theories, problems, solutions, etc. My hope is to share more of these so the community can see the vision and have a better chance at participating and enjoying it, as well as potentially contributing to MCV in deeper ways, which I know there is LOTS brewing in game in terms of events and games that are being worked on.

What's the expectation for Minecraft Updates on MCV?

When MCV started, minecraft was getting about 1-3 updates a year. The general plan was to allow for the updates to release. Once paper (our server) was stable, give plugin devs 3-6 weeks to update... and then comes MCV Admin's time to shine and glue it all together and test.

For the most part this is still the plan and the way. But slowly I am looking at limiting how fast we "chase" the latest update. It's currently not feasible for me to do a full update monthly. Good news is, we do have lighter experiences such as Hardcore and Vanilla that serve to fill that gap.

A Build Server

There's a plan in my head to potentially create a build server for the 110+ plugins we use. This will ensure the code and builds are somewhat insured, as well as allow better control over testing and upgrading... at an automated scale.

Obfuscation

In 26.1.2? mojang stopped obfuscating the server code. This should make it easier for certain plugins (dynmap) to work without needing very tedious updates very version.

The Goal

The MCV project is still volunteer based so... dev work is done as needed/available. And that's not just Hitman! We have had contributions from DocSplinters and LilBobTables for code.. and lots of help from reports/testing/explanations from the community that help improve MCV all around. All the tiny things add up!

So yes, MCV is still operating at "peak" update power... the capacity is about 2-3 major updates per year. And there are plans to make this a smoother/quicker process to better keep pace with updates.
